Chantal Peñalosa

Chantal Peñalosa is a visual artist born in Tecate, Mexico in 1987. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Baja California and as well as at the University of São Paulo. Her work has been awarded with the acquisition award in the XIV Bienal de Artes Visuales del Noroeste, an important visual arts exhibition by the government of Sinaloa that reunites the best works of visual arts from the north of Mexico. She has been part of important fellowships such as Jóvenes Artistas by FONCA, and the Programa Bancomer-MACG in it’s 4th Edition (2013-2014, 2015-2016), an important program that supports young visual artists. Peñalosa’s work reflects on time through daily life interventions that explore our notions of work, waiting and repetition, which is a key element in her work. She resides in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. 

Chantal Peñalosa es una artista visual nacida en Tecate, México en 1987. Estudió Bellas Artes en la Universidad de Baja California y también en la Universidad de  São Paulo. Ha recibido el premio de adquisición en la XIV Bienal de Artes Visuales del Noroeste, la exposición que el gobierno de Sinaloa organiza cada dos años para exponer lo mejor del trabajo de artistas visuales de diferentes partes del norte de México. Ha recibido becas de importancia nacional como el Jóvenes Artistas del FONCA y fue parte del Programa Bancomer-MACG en su 4ta edición en 2014. Su obra reflexiona sobre el tiempo y la vida cotidiana por medio de intervenciones en la vida cotidiana para explorar nuestras nociones de trabajo, espera y demora. A su vez, la repetición es un elemento central de su obra. Actualmente vive en Tijuana, Baja California.
