Balam Bartolomé
Balam Bartolomé (Ocosingo, Mexico) received a B.A. in Visual Arts from UNAM. He was named of fellow of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Jumex Foundation, the Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo, and the FONCA Young Creators Program. His work studies how contemporary cultures relate to their past. He interprets through sculpture, video, photography, drawing, graphics, and writing. He has exhibited broadly in North and South America, Europe, and Asia and has held artist residencies at Arte ERA (Uruguay), International Studio & Curatorial Program (NY), Nordic Kunstnarsenter (Norway), Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Omaha, NE), Casa Wabi (Oaxaca, Mexico), Flora Ars+Natura (Colombia) and Sculpture Space (Utica, NY). His most representative solo shows are Mexímoron at the National Museum of Interventions (Mexico) and Revés at the Carrillo Gil Art Museum (Mexico). Among the group shows, the 1st BIENALSUR (Argentina), the 1st Bristol Biennial (UK) and the 15th Tallinn Triennial (Estonia). He currently directs, along with artist Antonio Monroy, the artistic research project Bienal Tlatelolca in Mexico City.
Balam Bartolomé (Ocosingo, México). Estudia Artes Visuales en la UNAM. Beneficiario de la Fundación Jumex, Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo, el Programa Jóvenes Creadores del FONCA y The Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Su trabajo busca entender cómo las culturas contemporáneas se relacionan con su pasado y lo desarrolla en las disciplinas de escultura, video, fotografía, dibujo, gráfica y escritura. Cuenta con exposiciones en Norte y Sudamérica, Europa y Asia. Artista en residencia en Arte ERA (Uruguay), International Studio &; Curatorial Program (NY), Nordic Kunstnarsenter (Noruega), Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Nebraska), Casa Wabi (Oaxaca), Flora Ars+Natura (Colombia) y Sculpture Space (Utica). Sus exposiciones individuales más representativas son Mexímoron en el Museo Nacional de las Intervenciones (México) y Revés en el Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil (México). Entre las colectivas la 1ª BIENALSUR (Argentina), la 1ª Bienal de Bristol (Inglaterra) y la 15ª Trienal de Tallinn (Estonia) Actualmente dirige, junto al artista Antonio Monroy, el proyecto de investigación artística Bienal Tlatelolca, en la Ciudad de México.
