Storytelling in Community: Migration, Memory, and Family

All are welcome to join Julio Enríquez-Ornelas for this interactive creative writing workshop, moderated by Dr. Xiomara Verenice Cervantes-Gómez. Enríquez-Ornelas will share excerpts from his book, The Children of the Damned One. Join the author and share how his writing is rooted in storytelling found in U.S and Mexican communities, family, memory, trauma and literary forms. Then, those who are interested in writing can participate and become the creators of fiction rooted in their narratives. In this workshop, all participants will need a paper, writing utensil, or an active listener. The goal is to experience a sense of empowerment from the act of storytelling be it in written or oral tradition within your community.
Todxs están invitadxs a unirse al taller interactivo de escritura creativa de Julio Enríquez-Ornelas, moderado por la Dra. Xiomara Verenice Cervantes-Gómez. Enríquez-Ornelas compartirá extractos de su libro, The Children of the Damned One. Acompaña al autor y comparte cómo su escritura está arraigada en la narración que se encuentra en las comunidades estadounidenses y mexicanas, la familia, la memoria, el trauma y las formas literarias. Entonces, quienes estén interesados en escribir pueden participar y convertirse en creadores de ficción enraizados en sus narrativas. En este taller, todos los participantes necesitarán un papel, un utensilio para escribir o un oyente activo. El objetivo es experimentar una sensación de empoderamiento a partir del acto de contar historias, ya sea en la tradición escrita u oral dentro de su comunidad.
