Daniel Monroy Cuevas
Daniel Monroy Cuevas is a filmmaker and artist born in Mexico. He studied audiovisual arts in Guadalajara as well as cinema at the Vancouver Film School in Canada. From 2011 to 2013, he participated in the academic program at SOMA, a Mexico City-based organization dedicated to cultural exchange and arts education. His most recent solo shows include Sabemos como es el fuego (2018) at ESPAC in México City; Espectador en el Vacío (2015) at Galería Arredondo/Arozarena in Mexico City; A Waiting Search (2012) in the Museum of Oriental Art in Turin, Italy as part of the project LIDO; Enlocación (2011) in the Art Museum of Zapopan, Guadalajara; and Intransigente (2009) in the Laboratorio de Arte de Variedades in Guadalajara. Recent group shows include the 20th Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil (2017) in SESC Pompéia, São Paulo, Brazil; Lecturas de un territorio fracturado (2017) in Amparo Museum, Puebla, Mexico; Vis-a-Vis, as part of the The Biennial of the Americas (2015), Denver, CO, United States; and Tinnitus y fosfenos (2013) in the Art Museum of Zapopan, Guadalajara. He has been a recipient of the Young Artists grant from the National Endowment of Arts and Culture of Mexico (2005), the Young Artist grant from the State Culture Department of Jalisco, Mexico (2009), and the Carrillo Gil Museum Art Program Grant, Mexico City (2014-2016 edition). He currently lives and works in México City.
