Erin Florence Babbin
Erin Babbin is a documentary filmmaker who believes in keeping it real. Her work centers around elevating true stories from real people who exist in the margins of the mainstream. Babbin continues her family’s tradition led by her great grandfather’s home movies, her grandmother's photography and her mother's filmmaking. From a young age they brought her into their darkrooms and film sets, creating a foundation and passion for image making. Babbin studied documentary filmmaking at Columbia College and along with Michael Sullivan, she founded On The Real Film in 2011 elevating Chicago voices and narratives.
Since then On The Real Film’s work in cinema has screened internationally in Paris, New York, Tulum, Los Angeles, Mumbai, Istanbul, Hamburg, York, San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto and Park City, with short films such as “The Grand Tour” (2020), “Walking For Water” (2019), “Do You See What I See?” (2016), and “Wake Up” (2015). In August of 2018 On The Real Film premiered their first feature length documentary “The First Lions: Founding the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art” at Chopin Theater in Chicago. Their second feature length documentary project “Nuestra Herencia” premiered at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago in October 2022. Since their founding On The Real Film has also worked commercially documenting artists and musicians, arts organizations, nonprofits, university programs, and businesses. On The Real Film values storytelling and keeping it real.
Erin Babbin es una realizadora de documentales que cree en mantenerlos reales. Su trabajo se centra en elevar historias reales de personas reales que existen al margen de la corriente principal. Babbin continúa la tradición de su familia liderada por las películas caseras de su bisabuelo, la fotografía de su abuela y el cine de su madre. Desde muy joven la llevaron a sus cuartos oscuros y sets de filmación, creando una base y pasión por la creación de imágenes. Babbin estudió realización de documentales en Columbia College y, junto con Michael Sullivan, fundó On The Real Film en 2011 elevando las voces y narrativas de Chicago.
Desde entonces, el trabajo cinematográfico de On The Real Film se ha exhibido internacionalmente en París, Nueva York, Tulum, Los Ángeles, Mumbai, Estambul, Hamburgo, York, San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto y Park City, con cortometrajes como “The Grand Tour” (2020), “Walking For Water” (2019), “Do You See What I See?” (2016), y “Wake Up” (2015). En agosto de 2018, On The Real Film estrenó su primer largometraje documental "The First Lions: Founding the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art" en el Teatro Chopin de Chicago. Su segundo proyecto documental de largometraje, “Nuestra Herencia”, se estrenó en el Museo Nacional de Arte Mexicano de Chicago en octubre de 2022. Desde su fundación, On The Real Film también ha trabajado comercialmente documentando artistas y músicos, organizaciones artísticas, organizaciones sin fines de lucro, programas universitarios y empresas. .On The Real Film valora la narración de historias y mantenerla real.
