nadNavillus
Equal parts guitar and vocal driven, sonically and structurally diverse, nadNavillus is the music of Dan Sullivan. A Chicago resident since the late 90s, Sullivan has recorded with Glen Hansard and Jason Molina, including on the latter’s seminal Magnolia Electric Company, as well as releasing 4 full-length LPs with long-running Art-Metal ensemble Arriver. The latest nadNavillus album, Forgotten Portraits released in 2023, pairs Sullivan’s compositions with words sourced from Poetry Magazine’s February 2021 issue The Practice of Freedom, featuring poems by incarcerated people or those directly affected by incarceration. Anchored by Sullivan’s honest singing voice and impressive open-tuning electric fingerstyle guitar playing, the arrangements range from intimate to lush, with influences of African blues, out-jazz and Americana meeting under the umbrella of Indie-folk. Two previous albums on Jagjaguwar, Show Your Face and Iron Night found receptive audiences in Europe, and the next nadNavillus LP, tentatively titled Dedications is in preproduction and will be released late 2024.
